In December 1928, my grandfather moved to Daytona from Eustis, Florida where he had owned a service station, to become the Gulf Oil distributor. His office was located on 2nd Avenue by the railroad tracks. He sold gasoline to the service stations and delivered oil for heating. Back then they didn't have trucks with hoses and pumps. They had to take the oil and kerosene from the truck to the customers tanks in five gallon cans.

Daytona continued to grow as did his company. In 1932, Gulf Oil bought property on the river by the Seabreeze Bridge. They used to receive the gasoline & heating oil by a barge.
In 1952, after serving in the U.S. Army, Gary Cunningham, my uncle, came to work for his father and began to expand the gasoline stations and home heating oil business.
In 1962, Gary bought the company from his father.
In 1963, after graduating from Wofford College in Spartanburg, SC, and completing active duty in the U.S. Army, Lee Cunningham Culler moved to Daytona Beach to begin working at Cunningham Oil Co., first as a gas station attendant, and then a fuel oil delivery driver. After two years he began working in the office as a manager trainee.
In 1969, Lee formed a partnership and purchased the heating oil business. The following year we launched our air conditioning division which has become the main portion of our business.
In 1998, Cunningham LP Gas was formed to start delivering LP Gas to homes. The office is located at 2 South Perrott Street in Ormond Beach. We offer gas grills, gas fire logs, and gas heaters.
In 2000, Lee's daughter Stacy and husband Mark, moved back to Florida and began working for the company.
