Check Your Heating Before Winter

One of the last things on the minds of Floridians is getting their heating checked out before they switch over to heat.

But the chilly nights of November will be upon us in Central Florida soon, so it’s best to get started now before all of the heating and ventilation service companies, such as Cunningham, get busy. A check of your heating unit and vents may find nothing, but you never know. All it takes is too much lint piled up in the wrong place to create a catastrophe. Also, if you have a gas furnace, you really need to get it checked closely.

While a call to Cunningham can get you the service you need, here are some tips to think about, too:

  • Replace the air filter for your heater monthly. A clean filter will let your heater work easier and more efficiently. Cleaning dust from vents also will help.
  • Consider updating your heating system if it is old. A pre-1977 gas furnace is about half as efficient as when it was new. Replacing an old system could cut your gas bill in half.
  • If you don’t have a thermostat for your heating system, you need to get one. Cutting back on the heat when you aren’t home can save you a lot of money. It takes less electricity or gas to warm your cool home than it does to keep it warm all day.
  • Make sure there isn’t anything blocking your vents, especially if they are low on the wall or on the floor.
A service expert from Cunningham Oil can help you with more questions about your heating system. Scheduling an appointment today means you’ll be sure and get your heating checked before you turn it on for the first time.
